COWBOY
PREACHER'S WIFE
ABOUT US
Guess I've always been a cowgirl!

My dear husband, Dogie, became a Cowboy Action Shooter about 8
years ago. His excitement was contagious, but only enough to convince
me to tag along with him to his second shooting match to see what this
new activity was all about. I had listened to him for the better part of a
month as he explained what he had learned about cowboy action
shooting and the excitement he showed in returning the next month. I
found myself wearing safety glasses and plugs in my ears as I sat on
the porch of an old west building hearing muffled gun fire and folks all
dressed in get-up straight out of a spaghetti western, somewhere
between the 1850’s and 1890’s. I could hear some pretty hardy
laughing from time to time. Not just loud laughing, but that kind that
comes from deep-down inside when folks are really enjoying each
others company. I smiled to myself, thinking how good it was to hear
folks having such a good time. This was the kind of fellowship that I
think God intends for us to share with our brothers and sisters in
Christ. There I sat with my new white tennis shoes, stylish jeans and
Liz top. I felt so perfectly dressed when we left the house, but the
longer I sat on the old porch in my modern attire, I knew I was the one
out of character.
That day was the beginning of a love-affair I now have with the Old
West and all that can be included during that time period. This affair is
multi-faceted – from the dear friends I’ve made, the fellowships we
enjoy, the costuming and creativity, learning to shoot, loads to use,
pointers from helpful cowboys and cowgirls, being a good posse
member, praying for those in need of prayers and those that aren’t
aware of their need for prayer, and just plain letting God use me
however He chooses. You see, Dogie and I are semi-retired from
ministry and God doesn’t recognize the words semi-retired, nor would
we want Him to do so.
