God has a plan for every cowboy and cowgirl. This plan makes us the benefactor of His
grace and His love. When we talk about the plan we can make it so deep and complicated it
would take a while to get a rope on it. We can also make it so simple a small child can lead
it into the corral. His plan is as simple as a gift. There is nothing we can do to buy or earn
it. It is a gift. Like any gift, we have to accept it for it to be ours.
Everybody wants to “hit the target” and go to heaven. Heaven is where God is. It is God’s
home. Since the house belongs to God, it is God who sets the only way to get to where He is.
Our disobedience – the Bible calls it “sin” – forms a barrier between us and God. This
barrier keeps us out of God’s House. God has declared that every act of disobedience must
be paid for by sacrifice. Since there is no perfect sacrifice on earth acceptable to God, He
had to provide us the perfect sacrifice to pay for our disobedience. That perfect sacrifice
was His Son, Jesus Christ.
God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us as the perfect sacrifice. Because
our disobedience has already been paid for, God offers us His forgiveness as His free gift
of grace. We only have to accept His gift. There is no other way to get to where God is.
The way you do this is by praying this simple prayer:
“God, I know I’m a sinner. I believe that Jesus was your son, that He died on the cross for
me and that you raised Him from the dead to show Your acceptance of His payment for my
sin. Since you are the one who made me, I believe you can do a better job of running my life
than I’ve done with it. So, God, I’m turning it over to you. Please forgive me for all my
sins and take control of my life.”
